Will I get the photos I traveled to the Faroe Islands for?

"Will I get the photos I traveled to the Faroe Islands for?"

As a photographer I understand that concern. The Faroe Islands are an expensive trip, often once in a lifetime, into unknown territory with unpredictable weather and a harsh climate.

Let me answer that directly. Yes - you will come home with photos you are proud of. I have spent years learning how to navigate this weather, read its patterns, understand the light in changing scenarios, and apply all of that to these landscapes. I also come from a background of working closely with other photographers in demanding field conditions, where trust, awareness, and teamwork were essential, and that experience is something I also bring and share on my tours. That is why the photographers I guide leave with images and an experience they feel genuinely happy with.

Private photo tours, one-on-one guidance, and small group workshops can all be shaped around the kind of experience you are looking for.

Behind the Scenes - Out There for The Frame

A few raw videos from my photo tours — real moments behind the camera, moving with the weather, chasing the light, and sharing the commitment that strong photography asks for.

Thinking About a Faroe Islands Photo Tour?

If you are planning a trip to the Faroe Islands and considering a photo tour, send me your travel dates, your photographic interests, and anything else already on your mind.

I typically reply the same day with a first suggestion, practical details, and pricing. From there, we can shape the tour that fits you the best.

Once the tour is booked, I will prepare a visual guide with example images, locations, and photographic possibilities. I also bring printed copies of that guide with us into the field.

Your Experience

Think of me as your hunting buddy. I will not just show you places and stand by — I am out there with you in the mud, actively chasing the light, using my knowledge of weather patterns and changing conditions, inspiring you and your perception, and working each frame as it develops, while talking all things photography along the way.

We are here for one goal: your strong frames, and something meaningful for you as a photographer.

The same mindset, commitment, and workflow I bring to my own portfolio photography is exactly what I bring into every tour. We create strong frames together — and that is exactly what you came to the Faroe Islands for.

A Photo Tour Built Around You

Every photographer arrives in the Faroe Islands with different expectations, experience, and goals. My role is to meet you where you are and build the tour around what matters most to you. The same goes for visual storytellers, travel bloggers, and travellers who want to elevate their photography — you are welcome here too.

The Established Photographer

You know your craft and have developed your own style. What you need is not instruction, but an experienced hunting partner who understands the islands, the conditions, and knows where the good photos are most likely to happen. I am there to support your process and help you make the most of the opportunities we have.

The Aspiring Photographer

I know what it feels like to be where you are in your photography journey — stepping into something exciting, but still uncertain, with doubts and questions along the way. During our time together, I will help you move forward with more direction and confidence. Beyond technical settings, I will help you recognize opportunities, pursue your images, strengthen your feel for light and composition, and ignite the photographer that is already in you.

I bring full commitment into the field, and I ask for the same spirit from the people who join me: curiosity, patience, openness, and the willingness to pursue a good frame.

Q & A

What is the best time to visit the Faroe Islands for photography?

The Faroe Islands offer rewarding photography all year round, and each season has its own character. From April to September, you get longer days, more stable weather, brighter colours, the rich green the Faroe Islands are known for, good visibility, and easier access to certain areas. From October to March, the days are shorter and the weather brings darker mood, stronger atmosphere, storms, and more dramatic impressions. The best time depends on the kind of images you want to create and on when you are able to travel.

Are the tours private, customizable, or available for small groups?

My tours are fully customizable. They can be arranged as private one-on-one experiences, small group tours, or workshops tailored to the specific needs and goals of the photographers joining.

What camera gear should I bring for a Faroe Islands photo tour?

The best gear is the gear you already know how to use well. A wide to mid-range lens is great for landscapes, but do not underestimate longer focal lengths — I find them very useful for isolating details, distant layers, birds, and compressed scenes. A tripod is also worth bringing if you use one, especially for low light, long exposures, and more careful compositions. Bring extra batteries, memory cards, weather protection for your gear, and a basic cleaning kit. Resources in the Faroe Islands are limited, and if you forget something important, it may be difficult or impossible to replace it locally.

What clothing should I bring for the Faroe Islands?

Bring waterproof outer layers, good hiking shoes or boots, and clothing you can layer through the day. Conditions can shift, and there is always a chance you may spend longer hours outside in wind, rain, or colder weather, so layers are usually the best approach. It is also a good idea to keep an extra set of dry clothes in the car.

Good clothing is not a small detail here — it often affects how long and how comfortably you can stay out taking photos.

Are these photo tours suitable for beginners or only experienced photographers?

These photo tours are suitable for photographers of all levels. Beginners are more than welcome, and they can gain stronger images, more knowledge, and greater confidence in the field. I will inspire them to rewire their perception and help bring out the photographer that is already in them. For more established photographers, the focus is on expanding their portfolio and experience through strong and meaningful images. My photo tours can also suit travellers who have always wanted to learn more about photography, light, and composition, and come home with stronger images to show for their trip.

The tour is shaped around your level, your goals, and the kind of experience you want to have.

What should I bring for food and lunch?

It is best to bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks for the day. The Faroe Islands have limited resources outside of Tórshavn, and in the countryside there are not many places where you can buy food or stop for lunch.

A few villages have small shops or gas stations, but it is much better to prepare food in advance and bring it with you. We can decide together where to eat during the tour, and lunch or food breaks always come with a five-star view.

What happens if the weather changes or conditions are difficult?

Weather changes are part of photography in the Faroe Islands, and we use them to our advantage by adapting. Difficult conditions can often create the strongest atmosphere and the most moody images.

The weather is often not the same everywhere, and conditions can differ a lot from one island or area to another. This is why I follow weather apps and live camera feeds closely and always have alternatives ready so we can adjust the route towards stronger opportunities. Most importantly, even on a day with difficult weather, we still come home with good photos.

How much hiking is involved, and what fitness level is needed?

Unless specifically requested, my photo tours do not include long or difficult hikes. The hikes we do are usually easy to moderate. If you have health limitations, mobility concerns, or simply prefer less hiking, I will adjust the itinerary to your needs. If you are specifically looking for a route that includes more hiking, that can be arranged as well.

Can non-photographers or travel partners join?

Yes, non-photographer travel partners are welcome to join, and it is not unusual for that to be part of my tours. They will still have a very good experience of the landscapes, the atmosphere, and the day itself. At the same time, photography remains the primary focus, so the flow of the tour should continue to support that.

What happens after I send an inquiry?

Once I receive your inquiry, I will go through the details you send me, including your travel dates, expectations, photographic interests, and anything else that matters for the tour. I typically reply the same day with a first suggestion, practical details, and pricing. If you already have specific locations in mind, that is very helpful. I can build on that, optimize the route, and shape the experience around your needs and expectations. Once the tour is booked, I will prepare a visual guide with example images, locations, and photographic possibilities. I will also bring printed copies of that guide with us into the field.

Do you offer any partner discounts?

Yes. Clients joining my photo tours can receive a 10% discount on car rental with a local car company. If other partner discounts are available at the time of your tour, I will let you know during the planning process.
